In the 1990’s, Cray started a Big Brothers Big Sisters Program in order to help prevent problems from arising for “at-risk” youth. The national, evidence-based program matched children from single parent homes with caring and supportive mentors. It was the first program of its kind in Lawrence County. We disaffiliated from the National BBBS network in 2017 due to changes at the national level that were going to drastically increase our costs. In the 9 years since our separation, we have continued to serve the same population of children and families using the same model and procedures through our mentoring program.

In July 2018, Cray started the first Compeer Youth Program in Pennsylvania. Compeer is an international mentoring organization that benefits children and adults who have a mental health diagnosis. Like our other mentoring program, it is dedicated to increasing positive outcomes through the power of friendship. In September 2024, we started our first Compeer School Based Program with Mohawk Area School District.

Mentoring allows members of our community to step up and be the change they want to see. It also allows parents and guardians to partner with us in helping their child develop positive relationships outside of their home with both peers and other adults.
